Videos of the travels of Railfan Danny Harmon.
Born and raised in Florida, I love Florida railroads, but I am trying to range out to more states.
I currently shoot with a Sony AX-700 camcorder, a GoPro Hero 7 Black and a DJI Air 2 drone. With the addition of the new Sony, I'm shooting and publishing everything in 4K now.
I edit on an iMac using Final Cut Pro X and create graphics with Apple Motion 5.

The Seaboard Coast Line Reborn
Просмотров 68 тыс.Месяц назад
The Florida Central Railroad, a shortline with branches in Orlando, Ocala, Winter Haven and Lake Wales, recently started a program to paint a few of their locomotive in predecessor road colors. The predominant predecessor road for them in Florida was the Seaboard Coast Line. I set out to find one of their black and yellow homages.

I made this video after receiving a question from a viewer asking what were Divisions and Subdivisions? I threw in Junctions because I've had a few questions about those as well.

Why Locomotive Numbers Are Important
hey Danny quick question could you do a little more explaining about the track 1 and track 3 on the Callahan sub I'm confused on this thanks
Auto rack train engineer wasn't sparing the horses.
I advise you have the CSX sign clearcoated front and back to waterproof it. Any bodyshop could do it.
Very cool..
Hey Danny! Great video! Love the shot of the Silver Star zooming by!... nicely done!
Altough i'd rather eat a fresh orange in Florida . I love this train
Danny: you do a diligent and great, informative job on all your videos. Thank you! Love the lunch break stories to. Got a question regarding trains. What causes the "screeching" sounds I hear quite often. Am quite sure they're the wheel flanges rubbing against the rails...but is that right? Hey, also like the new fence sign layout too
Danny, how can I make a con dog from the box taste better than the oven? I like eating 'em track side, but these ones taste pretty bad.
If I were a rail fan and owned stock I would buy rail car scanner $DUOT
How do they operate DPU’S from the lead unit?
By radio connection
They did the same thing in Chicago over I-294 near the Highland Metra station on the triple track Metra Chicago-Aurora racetrack.. The Viaduct was built when I-294 was 3 lanes. It's been 4 lanes for years but there were no shoulders. They built them using Shoeflies, I believe. They even added a 4th track, being that this is the busiest Metra line, but far, it's also one of the busiest freight rail line in the midwest, along with Metra Electric, the old IC. I suspect the 4th track is to alleviate rail traffic if they need to shut down a track.
Have you ever planned on going up to a CN or CPKC line at all?
I've been through Murrysville area etc on way to visit family in Ft Wayne, maybe someday I'll pause a little on the 8.5 hr drive west
In the UK, we don't tend to use Y junctions. We use one or other of the following : 01. Passenger : A locomotive at one end and a driving trailer at the other ( a carriage with a cab that can control the locomotive) 02. Passenger : A locomotive or integrated power car at each end of the train so the driver ( 'engineer' ) simply walks from one end of the train to the other when he needs to reverse 03. Passenger : Diesel or electric multiple units where motive power is distributed throughout the train and there is a driving cab at either end 04. Passnger ( archaic ) & Freight : A run-around loop where the locomotive draws forward from its train, runs back along an adjacent track and couples up to the other end of the train. This works because the locomotive can be driven from either end. We do have a few junctions that can be used as a 'Y' junction but they are not actually designed to turn trains as in the American system. They tend to be used as straight-forward junctions for the most part. In the case of mainline heritage steam charters, however, they can be used as Y junctions in the sense that Americans understand the term. The steam locomotive will uncouple and run with a mess coach from the station to the junction. There, it will enter and proceed beyond a set of trailing points ( 'turnout' ). Then it will reverse over the points and run 'wrong way' ( against the normal traffic flow ) out of the junction beyond another set of trailing points. Then, it crosses over the second set of points to regain the correct running track. Once it has done that, it runs back to the station where it left its train and passes the carriages on an adjacent track before reversing back over a third set of trailing points to couple up to what is now the front of the train, ready for the return trip. Of course, in some situations, the nearest suitable point to turn the engine may be behind the station. In that case, it has to run backwards to the junction and backwards againfrom the junction! Alas, we no longer have turntables on our system. Life was so much simpler when we did! Facing points : a set of points which allows normal traffic flow trains to cross from one set of tracks to another. Trailing points : a set of points which requires a normal traffic flow train to go beyond them, stop and reverse over them to cross onto another track. Typically used for sidings or to allow 'wrong way working' when a track is unavailable for exceptional reasons such as maintenance or accident.
Ur videos are very educational for that I thank you
Thanks very much. I'm glad you like 'em.
@@distantsignal ur welcome
3:47 how did you edit the train tracks Danny?
Enjoying your videos. Reminds me when I was younger and would watch the coal trains heading East thru Hickory, NC. The piggy backs too. My grandfarther worked on the Southern as a brakeman back around 1917. Got the lantern he used as well.
Very cool. Your grandfather's lantern is a valuable memento.
Where is Danny's address for mail? If I can find a BNSF sign I'd send him one.
Looking good!
Wow -- I may have watched this video twice, with good reason. So much action it was terrific. The drone master -- that you are -- really was showcased with the two trains running side by side. Also great restaurant suggestions.
AT 8:29 mark, I love how Amtrak engineer Leroy puts his hand out the engine's window to wave enthusiastically at the camera.
I was looking to see if anyone commented about this. I think they all know and love Danny!
Awesome video of BNSF unit
Danny has a classic train channel, very respectful
Great job as always Danny! Love watching your videos and I always learn something from them about the railroad.
There are two IMs to and from Winter Haven to Jax, also local to Sebring (L764) that interchanges with SCFE.
Why are most good youtubers from my home state?? God a lot of railfans and First and second Amendment auditors from Fl on youtube..
I live in Berkeley County, South Carolina and know people that work at Cross Generating Station which is a coal fired power plant. They were unloading a coal train and found a rotten corpse in the bottom of one of the rail cars. It ended up getting stuck in the coal handler. They did a biopsy on it and it turns out the man had 38 puncture wounds. He was supposedly stabbed to death and his body was stashed in that car so the cops wouldn’t find it. That’s pretty genius because he stayed in the car for at least 3 weeks, ended up traveling at least 500 miles, and they were unable to identify him since he was crushed by 100 tons of coal and a coal handler.
I have been watching your videos for some time. I lived in the Canadian Rockies for over 30 years. Yesterday in my travels, I took a photo I would like to share. Kindly provide details please and thank you!
in my country rr cars are labeled with what to load in them, for example cars labeled grain can be loaded with grain, exc
I'm going to check out Waycross in two weeks. Any good places to eat there?
My first clear recollection of foreign power was seeing BN locomotives pulling coal trains on the KCS in southwest Arkansas. That was probably about 1980 or so.
Yo Danny thanks for motivating me to become a railfan and a RUclipsr. I love the videos that you post. Have a good day
Hi Danny! Question: are many railroads still using hump yards?
Yes railroads still use hump yards
Great videos, keep them coming! Love the food reviews too.
great content as always.. do you do voice overs ??
awesome content as usual. hoping you are well
Danny what determines the length and or size of a local freight for any railroad??
What equipment does he use to listen to the crews
Thanks again Danny, another great video!!!!
Sure love this! Hey, thanks to your videos, I'm going to see Gallitzin and Altoona PA and the Famous Horseshoe Curve in a couple weeks. I can't wait to see it. Thanks Danny!
We didn't have any holiday surge up here this year. A couple years ago there was 4-5 extras per day or at least extra long trains. The 23 season for us was the same as it is now, 2 stacks never any pigs and 1-3 mixed rack/stack trains. I suppose right this moment it's different. CN had one of their lines in Canada wash out last week so we are getting reroutes for a few days. If was a very odd holiday season last year for traffic.
Amazing video
Another great video.
I have to tell you Danny, I'm more of a GENESIS person when it comes to today's Amtrak. I have to admit the ORIGINAL Amtrak logo at Winter Haven is still looking SHARP. In addition, I saw that Big Tom's Dinner serves Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, maybe I'll swing by there someday.
I keep seeing Amtrak’s unit #51 everywhere! I caught it last week!
Relaxing after a hot day in Southern Indiana with a cold beer and another great video by Danny.
